A Letter to my Disease
April 24, 2026
This is not goodbye but
acknowledgement of the distance
which is new
to our relationship-
a separation which must be maintained
for my own peace of mind.
You had become a close friend
to support me when
an emotion got the best of me;
feelings I drowned in the
depths of golden amber liquid.
But at last I came to realize
my reliance upon you
is self-destructive.
Our association shredded
my well-being,
my sanity, and my very soul.
So although I am aware you will
always be there for me
(should I turn to you),
I write to tell you this: in the future
I will avoid you and choose instead to
promote growth of my true inner nature
and of my serenity.
