Anguish

August 22, 2026
You screamed and I did not hear you. You were lovely, majestic pines. You sheltered birds and greened my life. You stood proud, but were finally helpless against the executioner's saw. The trees have been cut down! The trees have been cut down! through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault If I had not moved away, and even then, if I could not have saved you, I would at least have flooded your roots with my tears and my fervent lamentations would have accompanied you to your innocent graves.
