bittersweet
May 8, 2026
mother's day is coming,
i see all the flowers and gifts;
so many cards and chocolates
and flowers to choose from to
ensure mama's everywhere
are celebrated—
i can't help but think of people
like me who never got to hold
their babies,
who never got to give them
names or hold their hands;
those of us who will never read them
stories or watch them grow
or see them dream and become
who they're meant
to be—
i have a good mother,
but mother's day is bittersweet
to me;
i think of my lost child
and all of their possibility—
how a flower
never got to bloom,
a star never got to shine,
there was a song that
never was able to be sung.
