Quiet Summer Day

Quiet Summer Day
grocery sack hangs heavy on Mom’s back
she stops to wave goodbye
before drifting down the path
finally free, I drop down, my back
straightened by the birch bark
kick off my shoes, socks and wave
my freed toes, stretch, curl and relax
undisturbed, a robin nibbles the grass
growing past my feet, pecks, looks around
pecks, looks around, comfortable in
each other’s company, unconcerned
quietness equalizes our differences
until a breeze startles the grass
and the robin bounds away
leaving me by my lonesome

Beautifully written. My favorite part was the phrase "unconcerned/quietness equalizes our differences." It's such a quiet, peaceful, lovely moment with a robin after carrying such a weight. Thanks for this. I look forward to more!
