“In the summertime, when the weather is high
You can stretch right up and touch the sky”
—from “In the Summertime" by Mungo Jerry
Matchstick romances begin with a spark
ignite intense fervent feelings that burst
into flames then rage night and day
feeding on nostalgic 1960s song lyrics.
Grooving paramours recline in a heatwave
blood flushes to surface skin blessing
naked bodies locked in holy union
exchanging fire between throbbing lips.
Loving perspiration insulates raw passion
as levels of perfection advance and retreat
like rhythmic waves on a cool summer breeze
wind wrapping eager bodies in a lover’s shroud.
